$1,000 follows their calls into $1,123
DHH@dhh"Not only am I uninterested in the company’s home device, I can, for the first time, envision a future where I don’t buy Apple by default. Indeed, this already happened..." Anyone into the age of agents will eventually realize Apple is a bad fit.
stratechery.comApple and a Hacker’s FutureI was happy for years in Apple’s walled garden; with AI, however, their protections feel like limitations.DHH@dhhThis is why founder-led companies tend to do so well. Why they even have a chance when the paradigm shifts. Executive agency, the willingness to just say WE'RE DOING THIS NOW, is the key ingredient. @tobi is among the very best at this, and thus Shopify blossoms.
tobi lutke@tobiYep. Except: 1. This was about important internal tools. The team was stuck in some architecture nightmare of their own doing (writing it in rails but headless, with graphql api, and a SPA react app, constantly needing frontend engineers for changes). I call this kind of thing
DHH@dhhOmarchy on @Qualcomm is progressing very quickly! I just bought a Snapdragon X machine for testing. They're a great bargain right now because Qualcomm makes great chips. They were just hampered by an out-of-date OS, but if you drop Windows, these things can soar! 🦅
Jim Martin@jdvmi00Getting Omarchy running on the Surface 8, Snapdragon X2 Elite is making progress. A lot of work just to get this on the display. We can fix EVERYTHING!
DHH@dhhShopify continues its absolutely bonkers growth run. Now well over a billion dollars in sale PER DAY on average! All flowing through Ruby on Rails. Just awesome.
Harley Finkelstein@harleyfQ2 is in, and it was a monster quarter. → $116B in merchant sales, up 32% YoY → $3.6B revenue, up 34% YoY → $654M free cash flow, 18% margin Five quarters running, GMV has grown more than 30%. The bigger story is underneath the numbers: every shift AI is creating happens to
2:31DHH@dhhApple is lost because bean counters and logistics men can't navigate paradigm shifts. Happy they put a hardware man back in the hot seat, but it's the software that needs fixing.
Ryan Singer@rjsAfter the Meta keynote, gotta say ... it does look like the computer industry is K-shaping toward: • Unix workstations (like Omarchy) • Non-computer devices (glasses, phones, tamagotchis...) First time Apple looks behind on multiple fronts.
